Cretan Food: Wine
Most Cretan families own vineyards or have relatives that produce local wine. Wine is produced and sold very cheaply in Crete, but the quality and taste is excellent. Wine is often stored in large wooden barrels and sold at market for around two to three euros per liter for new ( 2 year-old ) wine or four to five euros for older wine. Wine is aged anywhere from two to twelve years and becomes heavier with age. All types of wine can be produced and purchased on Crete from blushes to whites and reds.
