Crete Taxis : Shuttles, Cars, Vans

Taxis on Crete are relatively inexpensive and effecient. Most taxis are fashioned from sedans and travel around cities looking for clients or respond to a dispatcher. Other forms of taxis in Crete include horse-and-buggies for tourist excursions, shuttle vans and bus services. Automobile taxis may look different depending on the city, but all are marked as taxi with either a roof light or a door decal. Sharring of taxis with strangers is a common practice and a taxi driver may take on additional passengers if his taxi is only half full. If you wish to hail a taxi that already has customers in it, be certain to shout the name of your destination to the driver as he slows down so that he will know if the route is convenient for all of his clients. Do not expect to pay a smaller fee if sharing a taxi with strangers, and ask for a fixed fee when entering the taxi. It is always the best to ask what the fee with be prior to entering the taxi. This will ensure that you will not get cheated and may often result in a cheaper fare than the meter price. Tipping is customary but not necessary.
