A. Cave of Sentoni
 

Located in the village of Zoniania, this is one of the most beautiful caves in Crete. It is 145 meters in length and has 14 chambers. This cave is well-lit and open to the public.

B. Ideon Cave
 

Located about 25 km south of Anogia (South-east of Rethymno) is the Ideon Cave which is also known as Andron Cave. This cave is at the base of Mount Idi or Psiloritis. This cave was used as a temple during Classical times and has many legends surrounding it. According to mythology, this is the cave where Rhea (Zeus' mother) hid Zeus from Cronus
(or Saturn) who was trying to slay him.

C. Preveli Monastery
  The main church of the Lower Monastery is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and has a belfry dating from 1594. The main church of the Upper Monastery is dedicated to Saint John the Divine and its bell-tower dates to 1629. Both the upper and lower monastery were founded in the 16th-17th century and the double-aisled church of the monastery was built in 1836 during the Venetian period. A little museum housing various ecclesiastical relics and items is open to public.
D. Preveli Gorge
 

Preveli gorge is located south of Rethymno and extends from the mouth of Kourtaliotis River. The area where Kourtaliotis river joins with the sea is a beautiful place with palm trees and a sandy beach.

E. Patsos Gorge
 

Near the village of Patsos is this impressive gorge that has many caves and caverns in its walls. Many of these caves have beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.

F. Prassano Gorge
  This small gorge resembles the Samaria gorge but is smaller and perfect for shorter excursions. Many other caves and gorges can be found all around the prefecture of Rethymno and are perfect for a good journey excursion.
