Cretan Mythology: Minotaur, Icharus, Theseus

 

 

 

 

The mythology of Crete mostly derives from Greek mythology and is largely based on the historical figure of King Minos [ to read more about Minos, visit our history section ]. The most famous stories from Cretan mythology include King Minos' labyrinth constructed in front of his palace, the Minotaur that guarded the labyrinth and his treasure, Daedelus the architect of the labyrinth and his son Icharus who escaped imprisonment on Crete by fashioning wings from wax and feathers, and Theseus, the Athenean hero who slayed the Minotaur.
