Crete is easy to navigate as a whole, there is one major highway that spans the width of the island. However, there are few passable roadways that run North to South on the island, and a map is needed to determine which roads are passable and which are not. Also, maps are important when navigating towns and cities whether in car or on foot. Small alleys and ancient roads twist around structures in old towns and create somewhat of a maze. While these small streets are fun to explore, tourists may want to follow a more defined route.
