City of Heraklion
The City of Heraklion [ also known as Iraklion or Iraklio ] is the largest city on Crete and is the capital of the region by the same name. Heraklion is the most modern of the towns and cities on Crete and is also the busiest due to its population size. Heraklion is located on the Northern coast of the region and is easily accessible by roads that run both East and West from the city and North and South.
Town ofAgia Pelagia

This little tourist resort is about 18 km from Heraklion and has plenty of accomodations and tavernas beside the beach. This is a small town, so don't expect a wild nightlife, but you will find some bars and hangouts.
Town of Malia

Malia is a resort town that is built on the ancient past. There are many archaeological finds in Malia. Most visitors find Malia a fun location to relax and spend their holiday with plenty of accomodations, an active nightlife and lots to see. Read more.
Town of Matala

A former fishing village and ancient port, Matala is a modern resort town with a rich cultural history. This town is located about 75 km from Heraklion but has gorgeous waters and coasts. Camping is a popular activity in Matala since the campgrounds are very close to the beach; however, there are plenty of hotels and other accomodations here as well.
