The second largest city on the island of Crete, Chania has a population of about 60 thousand people and is the capital of the region of Chania. The furthest West of all the large cities, Chania is a popular tourist destination. With a few good beaches on the outskirts of town, most tourists visit Chania for the architecture and the culture it provides as well as its convenience. Chania is located only 15 minutes (by taxi) from the CHQ airport. In the center of town, is a large open-air market and many well appropriated shops.
