Cretan Food: Cheese
Many types of cheese are produced on Crete, much of which is derived from goat milk rather than cow milk. All types of cheese can be bought at markets and groceries including the famous feta cheese which adorns Greek salads. Feta is a soft white cheese made from goat milk and has a mild taste. Other types of cheese are also produced and consumed here. Tourists should taste as many types of different cheeses here as possible to fully experience Cretan food and the importance it places on local cheeses.
